Description
Sambal kecap is an easy and delicious sauce made using sweet soy sauce, chillies, and shallots. It’s enjoyed as a condiment with steamed rice, and is also used in grilled and fried dishes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 green chilies, small, sliced
- 2 red chilies, small, sliced
- 3 shallots, peeled, thinly sliced
- Half a firm red tomato, deseeded, sliced into small cubes
- 5 tbsp sweet soy sauce
- 1 tbsp lime juice (optional)
Instructions
- In a small serving bowl, put together all ingredients.
- Gently stir until all is coated in sweet soy sauce.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- Compared to onions, shallots have a milder flavour. They’re preferable when available, but can be substituted with onion.
- Lime juice will add tartness. It’s definitely optional.
- If preferred, a tablespoon of water can be added to dilute the sweet soy sauce.
