About Us

Selamat Datang!

Welcome to Cook Me Indonesian! We are two best friends, Nunuk and Deyana, who love sharing our excitement about eating and cooking Indonesian food. We hope you enjoy our blog!

Nunuk

Nunuk hails from Solo, the historic royal capital and cultural centre of Java, Indonesia. She has been cooking since the age of 12, and also performs and teaches traditional Javanese dance. For more than 20 years, Nunuk lived abroad in the US, the Netherlands and Singapore, which made her miss Indonesian food and customs so much that she learned how to cook the most elaborate, most intricate ceremonial dishes of Indonesia. In addition to cooking, eating, and dancing, Nunuk is passionate about travel, culture, and film. Her dream is to eventually write her own Indonesian cookbook.

Deyana

Deyana was born in Singapore and lives there. She met Nunuk when they were both part of a Javanese Gamelan ensemble! Deyana is half-Chinese, half-Arab, with a grandmother who was born to an Arab family in Bogor, Indonesia. Deyana grew up eating Indonesian food as it is cooked in Arab-Indonesian households, and has fond memories of the festive whole chicken stuffed with lamb. A perpetually busy person, Deyana’s cooking style is simple and uses plenty of shortcuts. Deyana edits the content on Cook Me Indonesian, and contributes an article or a recipe on occasion.
